Alan Wilkinson & Paul Hession

Very rare chance to see this heavyweight sax and drum duo featuring two of the UK’s finest exponents of free music. Both played formative parts in the Leeds experimental music scene in the 80s, founding the Termite Club and performing in the ferocious Hession/Wilkinson/Fell trio.

Alan Wilkinson
There can be few more daunting sounds in free music than that of Alan Wilkinson in overdrive, whether the headlong flights of his alto playing, or the beefier heft he gets from the baritone. Since relocating to London in 1990 he has continued to play and promote the music and remains one of the most powerful saxophone voices around today.
His list of past collaborators includes Derek Bailey, Peter Br√∂tzmann, Chris Corsano, Stefan Jaworzyn and Thurston Moore. He has recently released a Tape collaboration with US keyboard skronk oddballs Talibam! and performed at Stewart Lee’s ATP with his longstanding trio with Steve Noble and John Edwards.

Paul Hession
One of free music’s most fleet and expressive drummers. His impressive list of collaborators includes Peter Br√∂tzmann, Evan Parker, Lol Coxhill, Sunny Murray, Marshall Allen, Frode Gjerstad, Peter Kowald, Joe McPhee, Borah Bergman, Otomo Yoshihide and Derek Bailey.
He appeared on Squarepusher’s UK tour in 2005, playing in the Contemporary Music Network freenoise UK tour 2007 (with C Spencer Yeh, Evan Parker, John Wiese a.o.), and played at the Colour Out of Space festival, Brighton in 2008 with Sammi Pekkola and Biggi Vinkeloe and duos with ex Harry Pussy guitarist Bill Orcutt.
